Madonna Adoption Legal Trouble
Is pop star Madonna a fit person to adopt a motherless Malawian
toddler? When the legal system needs to ask the question even Madonna must
wonder. Except, of course, one understands that the child's biological father
has accepted a fair monetary settlement quoted as being more in a lumps sum than
he could earn in the entire rest of his life. Madonna gets what Madonna wants
and she suffers no qualms as to how she gets it.
With good reason the Human Rights Commission of Malawi has great reservations
and the Judge has declared the first hearing as irregular which likely will have
far-reaching consequences in a country where AIDS has affected an estimated two
million children. Madonna states she has had the child tested and he is free of
the disease.
Child advocacy groups have stated that the lack of clarity in Malawi when it
comes to adoption by foreigners could be an open sesame to child traffckers and
pedophiles.
So for the time being the child is in America in the custody of Madonna and her
husband pending the Malawi judge's opinion. The ruling was due November 20th.
Madonna is still in possession of the boy so it would seem she gets what she
wants, but not generally known the boy's father in Malawi told journalists that
he had no intentions of rescinding his consent and “for everyone to back off.”
Since Malawi Child Protection laws are not only archaic, they are also quite
forgotten for reasons only Malawians understand. AIDS, over abundance of births,
and more children becoming orphans, plus the frantic and frequency of others
quickly adopting the children, why would the Malawi courts object to Madonna.
She can give him a life that no other child would ever have. But would she teach
him her obvious lack of morals as well?
