Avandia Lawsuits
As early as 2003 Avandia had been linked to a number of serious effects. The
Mayo Clinic experts discovered that the drug was linked to cases of
congestive heart failure in elderly men while undergoing treatment for
Diabetes II.
Avandia was found to cause weight gain, swelling of legs and feet, shortness
of breath and fluid in the lungs. Not enough? Avandia also is associated
with liver problems which results in jaundice, fatigue, vomiting, stomach
pain and nausea. Is there any wonder that law suits go on and on. This drug
is supposedly to treat Diabetes and was fully approved by the FDA in 1999.
It is a larger menace than the disease it was concocted to cure.
GlaxoSmithKline the pharmaceutical company along with the FDA sent a letter
to health care professionals in 2005 to alert them about the possibility of
edema and protein in the eye.
The drug, additionally, is linked to hypoglycemia, which is the lack of
sugar in the blood. For those who don't know, that means the body can't
function and causes another long list of problems such as heart attacks,
accelerated heart rate, headaches, sweating, weakness and dizziness.
Believe it or not this drug was one of the most popular for GlaxoSmithKline.
Supposedly it works by allowing the body to use insulin to control the
levels of sugar in the blood to prevent serious liver damage.
Diabetes effects almost sixteen million adults in just the United States. A
manufacturer of such a dangerous drug as Avandia should not only be sued by
closed down altogether.
